Will Headline Writers Ever Stop Getting High on Pot Puns?

2 Substance

Jaime Fuller at The Washington Post has compiled a list of no fewer than 46 pun-tastic pot headlines to make a drugs journalist blush. “Across the country, more and more states are warming up to legalized medical marijuana,” she notes. “However, the puns used to describe such changes in American culture haven’t changed much over the past couple of decades. In fact, we seem to be using many of the same ones. Over and over again.”

Here are some highlights. Course, now that we’ve blogged about this, we’ll somehow have to try to resist the compulsion to use any of them at Substance.com. Gulp.

“The Grass Menagerie” —  The New Yorker

“A Hail Mary (Jane) for Legalizing Marijuana — Mother Jones

“Iowans support joint effort to help people” — The Muscatine Journal

“Reefer gladness: Mile High City’s pitch to the high-end weed smoker” — The Irish Times

“Seattle’s budding economy: Pot tourism” — CNN

“Uruguay: Yes we cannabis” — Al Jazeera

“O Cannabis! – Canada rethinks its drug policies” — The Weekly Standard

“The history of cannabis in Colorado…or how the state went to pot” — Westword
