Shot of the Day: Poet Allen Ginsberg Spells Out His Marijuana Policy
We'll take his word for it.
It goes without question that legendary Beat poet Allen Ginsberg was a fan of pot. He was open about his marijuana use, he was a pioneer of the effort against drug prohibition, and he even laced many of his greatest works with references to weed. Yet there are few images that solidify his stance better than this photo, taken outside the New York Women’s House of Detention in lower Manhattan in 1963 when Ginsberg led a marijuana legalization demo with fellow poet Ed Sanders. “Pot is fun,” eh?
